Hersov's plans for the massive upgrade of Fisantekraal airport a boost for Durbanville property
Category News
The repeated, optimistic predictions that Rowan Alexander, Director of the Cape Town estate agency, Alexander Swart Properties, has made over the last two years regarding the bullish prospects for Durbanville property, have been given added credence by the recent announcement that Rob Hersov, CEO of Invest SA, has made in relation to the suburb.
Hersov, it is reported, has bought the 150ha Fisantekraal airport 13km from the Durbanville cbd and plans to upgrade it into "the Lanseria Of Cape Town" i.e. to make it a facility attractive to local and international airlies and flying enthusiasts. Invest SA has links with investors in New York, London, Geneva and Dubai. Hersov returned to SA four years ago after living and working overseas for 31 years.
"The simple fact that such a high profile personality as Hersov has shown such confidence in a in a tourist related industry currently on its knees and in Durbanville itself will go a long way to restoring certain waverers' confidence in our future," says Alexander. In Durbanville, he added, property confidence had waned a little towards the middle and the end of last year but has now revived in line with the FNB Property Barometer which reflects an upturn in the R1,2 to R2 million property market.
"Coming on top of other recent developments such as the commencement of constuction of a new Curro private high school and the planned opening in 2023 by the same group of the first phase of the new private university, the outlook for Durbanville is very positive. Bear in mind, too, that these major moves have been complemented by the upgrading of our central shopping centre, Village Square, the ongoing satisfactory sales at such developments as Cara Anna Fontein (priced from about R4 to over R20 million, with plots going at around R2,4 million) and over R200 million sales in 12 months at Trinity Projects' new Stonewood Village (where Alexander Swart are the marketing agency and where new three bedroomed homes are being sold for around R2million) and it will be evident that few other Cape Town decentralised areas are proving so successful.
Asked if Alexander Swart's Durbanville office can also report signs of confidence in local residential property, Alexander said that sales at ASP's Durbanville office this year have topped R74million, 20% up on the same period last year, and show no signs of easing off despite the difficulties of operating under lockdown restrictions.
